February 2005. Bad news during engine disassembly, big end
no.5 crankpin looks terrible...

The inside of the block is scratched at the point where conn-rod number
5 is passing close to it during rotation (missing reddish paint at lower
left of the photo below). It may be a hint of a major disaster on no.5
sometime in the past... |

Following photo shows big end crankpins 5 & 6. The problematic one
(5, lower left) is a different colour, suggesting different metal
composition. |

Both photos below show main crank pin no.2. Different amount of wear
can be seen on the 2 photos, suggesting a non-straight crankshaft (the
mark shown on the right photo is not on the metal, it is a photo defect /
cloth fibre). |
