The Segny - Monte Carlo Rallye: Structure

Principle: The idea is to have a relaxing competition whilst driving down to Monte Carlo from Segny, the emphasis being on navigational competence rather than speed, and sportsmanship rather than fierce competition.
Car classes: The event is open to all drivers and cars, classic or modern, including Japanese and Swedish models. There will be a single class for all cars.
Scruteneering: Scruteneers will be fairly lax with car examination, the emphasis being on safety (securely mounted battery, carburettor return spring, seat belts), but they will also fail your car if it is not clean. Last minute modification material and cleaning agents will, as always, be provided at the farmhouse.

The rally consists of several public road stages:

Normalisation (non-competitive).
This stage is used for determining the "normal" fuel consumption and mileage counter error of the participating cars. All cars start the stage with full tank, while the mileage meter indication is noted down. The cars drive for the complete stage distance (around 200km) in convoy formation. At the end of the stage the mileage meter indication is noted down once more, and the total stage consumption is determined by refueling. The relative differences of the mileage meters is used for measurement corrections in the "Minimum distance run", while the fuel consumption is used for normalisation of measurements in the "Economy run".

Treasure hunt run
This stage tests the navigational competence of the participants. The cars must stay on a compulsory route and answer a series of direct or cryptic questions, based on the surrounding facts and evidence. The route trajectory is defined by "tulip" diagrams with reference to a 1:100.000 map of the area. Penalty points are given for wrong answers, while time-penalty points are awarded for competitors that exceed the maximum allowed time for the stage.

Minimum distance run
The starting and finishing point for this stage are defined. The participants are free to choose any road they like to go from start to finish, with the aim of covering the least amount of kilometers. After normalising (based on the normalisation stage measurements), penalty points are awarded to the participants, based on the extra kilometers they have driven with respect to the car which ran the shortest route. In addition, time-penalty points are given for cars that exceeded the maximum time allowed for the completion of the stage.

Economy run
The starting and finishing point for this stage are defined. The participants are free to choose any road they like to go from start to finish, with the aim of consuming the least amount of petrol. After normalising (based on the normalisation stage measurements), penalty points are awarded to the participants, depending on the relative fuel consuption with respect to the rest of the competitors. In addition, time-penalty points are given for cars that exceeded the maximum time allowed for the completion of the stage.

Human refueling (non-competitive culinair session)

The traditional rally dinner and the presentation of the trophies take place in one of the beautiful restaurants in the medieval town of Eze.
